APPRECIATIVE INQUIRY FOUNDATIONS WORKSHOP: Igniting and Sustaining
Positive Change in Organizations and Communities
With Joanne Daykin and Catherine McKenna
March 27-30, 2006
Target Audience:
Managers, HR/OD professionals, practitioners and other leaders of transformative
change
What is Appreciative Inquiry?
What is Appreciative Inquiry?
Appreciative Inquiry (AI) is a powerful new vehicle for energizing positive
change in an organization's human, ecological and economic functioning. Its aim
is to discover, expand, and sustain an organization's root causes of success. AI
is particularly useful in turbulent environments and has been used very
successfully with complex changes like transformation, restructuring, mergers,
acquisitions, and for relational processes such as union/management
relationship, teambuilding, capacity building and diversity.
About the Course:
This, hands on, learn by doing, in-depth workshop is designed for anyone
seeking to obtain a solid grounding in the theory and practice of appreciative
inquiry - e.g.- managers, consultants, human resource professionals,
organizational and community facilitators - anyone concerned with minimizing
resistance while achieving rapid change within human systems.
AI has been used very successfully with large change initiatives like program
evaluation, restructuring, mergers, acquisitions, and for relational processes
such as union/management relationship, diversity as an asset, and preparing the
workforce to shift from hierarchy to horizontal team based processes. AI is
particularly useful in turbulent environments.
Rather than just another technique or tool, AI is presented as a radically
innovative approach to the whole field of organization development and community
change. The program focuses on energizing positive change in
organization/community direction and culture. Most importantly, this workshop
grounds participants in the concept of the emerging paradigm and what it means
to "be AI" rather than just "doing AI".
In addition to experiencing and examining the 5 " D's " of the AI process
(Definition, Discovery, Dream, Design, Destiny/Delivery), workshop you will:
- Receive support in actually practicing appreciative question construction,
interviewing skills, topic identification, imagining the future, translating
the dream into systemic changes and engaging people in self organizing for
implementation.
- Become familiar with the principles, research and theory base of AI.
- Learn about the types of change agendas to which AI is suited. Hear
stories from a variety of sectors and industries in which AI has offered a
significant advantage over traditional, deficit based change approaches. For
example: strategic planning, evaluation, team building, culture change and
diversity.
- Learn to introduce the concepts and process of AI back home.
- Receive consulting support on applying the learning immediately in your organization or client system.
Included in the course:
- A soft-copy manual that can be easily adapted for use with a core team
- A set of "intro to AI" Powerpoint slides you can use right away to share
your learning
- An extensive resource manual including sample interview guides, sample
agendas and articles
