Appreciative Inquiry: A Positive Revolution in Change: An Introductory Workshop

WHAT IS APPRECIATIVE INQUIRY?

Appreciative Inquiry (AI) is a powerful new vehicle for energizing positive change in an organization's human, ecological and economic functioning. Its aim is to discover, expand, and sustain an organization's root causes of success. AI is particularly useful in turbulent environments and has been used very successfully with complex changes like transformation, restructuring, mergers, acquisitions, and for relational processes such as union/management relationship, teambuilding, capacity building and diversity.

LENGTH: One day

ABOUT THE WORKSHOP

This one-day workshop is designed for anyone seeking to obtain an introduction to the theory and practice of AI. This includes managers, consultants, human resource professionals, organizational and community facilitators. Rather than just another technique, AI is presented as a radically innovative approach to the field of organization development.

Participants will:

  • Be introduced to the principles, terminology and theory base of AI
  • Experience appreciative interviewing and practice positive topic identification
  • Become familiar with basic elements of the 4-D cycle : Discovery, Dream, Design & Destiny
  • Explore various applications of AI by reviewing cases in which an AI approach has been used to realize positive futures in organizations and communities.
  • Discuss how to sustain the positive momentum of AI.

ABOUT THE PRESENTERS:

Catherine McKenna and Joanne Daykin are Ottawa based consultants who apply the principles of AI to their work as trainers and change facilitators. They work together and independently to help teams and organizations realize positive futures. In partnership with Bernard Mohr, co-author of "Appreciative Inquiry: Change at the Speed of Imagination", they offer AI foundations skills training in the Ottawa area. Both are members of the newly formed AI cluster of the OD network, and Catherine is a co-owner of AI Consulting, an international consortium of Appreciative Inquiry consultants.
