Case Study 5:
Conflict Resolution in a High Tech Company

John, the manager of a very large high tech company was concerned about the amount of conflict there was on his management team. The team had been together for several years with many new faces, but the issues remained the same. He knew the conflict on this team was having a seriously negative impact on the morale of his organization. He knew he had to do something to prevent any further losses.

When John first met with us, we thought the needs of his team were fairly straight- forward. Through a further needs analysis, it was discovered that the conflict on this team was well ingrained and would require more than just a straightforward team building session.

The group took a step towards truly understanding each other's concerns....
After a complete needs assessment, we decided to run a session on conflict resolution and leadership development. Our aim was to get the managers talking to each other and truly listening; something they hadn't done in the past. Our hope was that at the end of the session, each member would have had a chance to express their concerns and that the other members would have a clearer picture of each other's perspectives. And that's exactly what happened. The group took a step towards truly understanding each other's concerns and then used this energy to forge ahead to identify what the issues were for the team and for the organization. They then devised a plan for settling some of these long-standing issues both at the team level and at the organizational level.
